Sleep Apnea

Recognizing Sleep Apnea early on and treating it can prevent many other health problems down the road.  At Anderson Family Dental in Winter Park, FL, we can help you get a good night's sleep.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea is a serious sleep disorder that occurs when a person's breathing is interrupted during sleep. People with untreated sleep apnea stop breathing many times during sleep, sometimes hundreds of times during the night.

If untreated, sleep apnea can result in a number of health problems including hypertension, stroke, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy (enlargement of the muscle tissue of the heart), congestive heart failure, diabetes, and heart attacks.

Our dentists at Anderson Family Dental can help you find the right therapy to treat your sleep apea and help you return to an improved quality of life.

Oral Appliance Therapy

WHAT IS ORAL APPLIANCE THERAPY?

Oral appliance therapy is an effective treatment option for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). An oral appliance fits over your teeth like an orthodontic retainer while you sleep and supports your jaw in a forward position to keep your airway open.

At Anderson Family Dental, we can create a custom-fit oral appliance to improve your sleep, restore your alertness, and revitalize your health.

ADVANTAGES OF ORAL APPLIANCE THERAPY

Oral appliance therapy is an effective, non-invasive treatment that fits easily into your lifestyle. It can improve your symptoms of OAS, including daytime sleepiness, moodiness, concentration issues and reduce or eliminate snoring.

Patients like oral appliance therapy because it is:

Easy to wear and comfortable

Quiet

Portable

Convenient and easy to care for

Works without electricity

Offers another option for people who cannot tolerate CPAP

Nightlase (non-ablative laser treatment)

A NON-SURGICAL PATH TO A BETTER NIGHT'S SLEEP

Nightlase™ C3 is a therapeutic non-ablative laser treatment for sleep disorder breathing which may be the cause of your sleep apnea. This therapeutic procedure increases the oral airway, decreases snoring, and improves Obstructive Sleep Apnea. In fact, many people notice a remarkable difference after just one treatment!

At Anderson Family Dental, we use Nightlase™ C3 technology to provide our patients with minimally invasive twin light laser therapy. This therapy works to produce collagen rejuventation tightening and elevating the soft palate, uvula, and surrounding tissues.

This therapeutic procedure creates a larger opening in your oral airway which results in decreased snoring and improved sleep apnea. Many people notice a difference after just one treatment!

SIMPLE, SAFE AND EFFECTIVE

The full process for Nightlase ™ C3 treatment generally takes a few months. The Nightlase™ C3 treatment at Anderson Family Dental is a package of 3 treatments, which provides our patients the opportunity for maximum results.  Some patients may require additional or touch-up treatments after these initial 3 treatments.

  • ARE DENTAL X-RAYS DANGEROUS?
Some patients are concerned about the safety of dental x-rays because of the exposure to radiation it requires. At Anderson Family Dental, we employ a strategy called As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) to minimize the time and amount of your exposure to radiation in any and all imaging procedures. In addition to levels of radiation being very low, the protective vest used in the procedure is a layer of protection for your vital organs against unnecessary exposure. Thus, dental x-rays are considered safe for any age, with proper use of protective coverings.
